Amnesty International First Interview with Nancy Bosney, Second Interview with Dori Dinsmore
The charter for Amnesty International states that their mandate is to promote universal human rights. Over the 43 years of existence (it was created in 1964) there has never been a time when they lacked for trouble spots all over the world. Amnesty International has almost 2 million members. In the 43 years of operation the geographical focuses have changed somewhat but "man's inhumanity to man" seems to have no boundaries.
Although we Americans espouse the "home of the brave and the land of the free", the U.S.A. is currently one of the worst offenders against human rights. Some of the current global issues being targeted by Amnesty International include;
- Violence against women (domestic, sexual, economic, social)
- Trafficking in forced prostitution and forced indenture, 3) Torture (physical, mental, emotional)
- Genocide
- Use of "black" sites for kidnapped prisoners (prisoners are whisked out of the country to unknown sites)
At the time of broadcast both Ms. Bosney and Ms. Dinsmore were Midwest Regional Directors for Amnesty International.
